When you first see Jason Michael Carroll perform, he
might not be exactly what you would expect to see on the
Country Western scene. His appeal and his voice are not
the only reasons that many people are pushing his songs
to the top of record charts and the reason why so many
flock to see him sing. His songs grab the heart and soul
of every listener and they hang on to the very end.
Jason was born on June 13, 1978 in Texas the oldest of
three children. His family moved to the Youngsville,
Franklinton area of North Carolina where he grew up in a
religious and quite strict home. His father being a
preacher would not allow any secular music played in the
home or even on family trips in the car. His father went
so far as to give him a “spanking” when he found a copy
of “Achy Breaky Heart” under his pillow. During his
younger years, his musical talent was seen in the church
from an early age.
Jason found employment with a motor company and this is
when he found his real love – Country Music. A local
country band, “Chasin' Country” invited him to be their
lead singer, which led him to performing in various
clubs in the area. However, when offered a gig at the
LongBranch Saloon in Raleigh, North Carolina, the band
could not make the appearance.
In 2002, Jason moved back to Texas, however, he was back
in North Carolina by 2004 and became the lead singer
with the band “Steel Kick'n.” During the summer of 2004,
mainly for his mother, he entered in the Fox “Gimme the
Mike” contest. Jason explained, “I used to make fun of
the people on those shows, truth be told.” He won the
competition in Raleigh and headed off to New York. This
is where Rusty Harmon who at one time managed Hootie &
the Blowfish, racked Rear View, and several of John
Mellencamp's classic rock albums, for his talent.
During this time he still continued to play at various
locations around the South Carolina area, sang the
National Anthem at many ball games, and played at the
Kerry Edwards Rally in Raleigh, North Carolina. He was
also the opening acts for such names as Brad Paisley,
Rhett Aikens, Neil McCoy, Josh Turner, and Blake
Shelton.
Jason signed with Arista Nashville and released his
first single, "Alyssa Lies," in late 2006 and his first
album is expected in 2007.
His musical influences include Garth Brooks, George
Strait, Randy Foster, Billy Ray Cyrus, Vince Gill, Pearl
Jam, and Aerosmith.
